Red. 8 ply used in both directions, the weft is a shade darker than the warp to give some depth of colour.  The threads in both direction are the same weight so the weave is relatively even.

Grey. With this one I was experimenting with a 4 ply warp and 8 ply weft so the variegate grey is dominant in the fabric.  The soy wool blend I used for this is a loosely spun single therefore the thickness of the yarn varies a bit.

Green. This is another with uneven weight, in this case the warp is a 4ply bright green and the weft is a 12ply dark green so specks of bright colour peek through the thicker dark yarn.

Blue. Adding texture fills the gaps and hides all sorts of mistakes.  This one is a brushed mohair warp with a boucle mohair weft.

Neutrals. Adding colour with stripes adds a whole new complexity. This one has alternating threads in both directions.  If I had only used 2 colours it would have been a houndstooth but I used a variegated bamboo in one direction and a dark brown wool in the other.

Imagine what I would get up to with the ability to do more complex weaving!

6 scarves and a bag.

1 of the scarves took 2 years to make, it was a quick knit on big needles but it sat around for a long time before I got around to finishing it.  It’s the purl scarf made in wool and alpaca for Eno.

The other project that took some time was a woven bag.  It turned out to be huge so fits in everything I need to make a jumper!  This bag is an ingenious design, you make a rectangle that is 3 times as long as it is wide.  Sew 2 seams and add a handle and you have a bag!  The design was Furoshiki bag from Complete Contemporary Textiles.

Add to that 5 woven scarves and that is a productive week!

This is fun, it takes a while to warp (put the threads on the loom that you are going to weave through), wind the yarn onto the shuttle then away you go and have a FO a couple of hours later.

My edges are very uneven at the moment and the weaving is far from even but everyone in the house is putting in an order for a scarf for next winter.

I started with a smooth yarn and that was relatively easy although I found I was pulling it too tight a lot hence the wonky edges. The second attempt I used a soy wool blend for the weft and merino, possum, silk blend for the warp and I had to slow down a bit. This third one is a mohair and separating the threads is definitely a manual process. I think it will be worth it though and the fluff and boucle will hide any flaws better than in the earlier versions.

With a scarf taking 2 balls of yarn and finished in a few hours this will eat through the stash quite quickly.
